OUR AMAZING INTERVIEW WITH JULIAN LEBLANC
Advice, Laughs and Acting Secrets!
Hey everyone! It’s Max and Uma here, and we’re super excited to share our experience interviewing the one and only Julian LeBlanc for The Callback Kids Podcast!
We still can’t believe we got to talk to the founder of the LeBlanc School of Acting —a place known around the world for helping young actors like us become the best we can be!
Who Is Julian LeBlanc?
Julian LeBlanc is an accomplished actor, director, and producer, as well as the founder and president of the LeBlanc School of Acting. With a background as diverse as his talent, Julian created the school to give young actors the chance to learn and grow in an environment that celebrates creativity and individuality. The LeBlanc School of Acting, now operating in over 16 countries, is renowned for its unique Exploration Method, which offers young actors the freedom to explore different techniques and find what works best for them. Also, Julian isn’t the only expert guiding students at LeBlanc. The school has a team of talented, passionate teachers who are experienced actors, directors, and industry professionals.
From the moment Julian started talking, he was full of inspiring advice and hilarious stories. We learned so much about acting, being true to yourself, and how to keep going, even when things get tough. Here are a few of our favourite moments from the interview!
Be Your True Self
One of the best pieces of advice Julian gave us was about being yourself. He told us:
“Every single actor, like you two, you both are successful actors. You cannot be afraid to show the uniquely unique person that you are.”
Hearing this from someone as successful as Julian made us realise how important it is to stay true to who we are. No one else can bring what ‘we’ bring to the table, and that’s something Julian believes is essential in acting—and in life!
Emotional Layering: Taking Acting to the Next Level
Julian also taught us about a technique called ‘emotional layering’. It’s about showing all the different stages of an emotion rather than just one feeling. For example, if a character is angry, it starts as irritation, then moves to frustration, and finally, rage. Julian explained it like this:
“Emotions have different levels and layers…showing those subtleties makes your acting so much stronger.”
This advice really opened our eyes to new ways of acting. It’s not just about being “angry” or “happy”—it’s about showing “why “your character feels that way and letting the audience see the journey.
The Exploration Method: A Fresh Way to Learn
One of the coolest things we learned about Julian’s school is something called the ‘Exploration Method’. Julian told us that no two classes are the same, and students get to try different techniques so they can find what works best for them.
“Our students get to have autonomy in choosing what techniques work for them, so they gain a competitive edge,” Julian explained.
It really is an amazing way to learn and as we know Max has experienced this first hand with Julian’s classes.
Lessons on Resilience and Staying Positive
We asked Julian how he stays motivated, especially when things get tough. He reminded us that the ups and downs are part of the journey, and that every experience is a chance to grow. He told us:
“If you quit today, what if tomorrow was the one?”
Discussing the challenges of the industry, Julian noted:
“Rejection is part of the journey. It's essential to stay determined and view each 'no' as a step closer to that 'yes'”
This advice hit home for us because, like all actors, we know how hard it can be when auditions don’t go as planned or there’s a lull in work. Julian’s words made us feel ready to take on whatever comes next!
Fun and Games!
And of course, we had a blast with Julian during the interview! We played a fun game where Julian had to name things that started with the letter “L” (and he ‘almost’ nailed it!). At the end of the interview, Julian turned the tables and asked us what one word came to mind when we thought about our future in acting. Max’s word was “Met Gala” (fancy!), and Uma’s was “Top of the Ladder” (cool!), Julian’s word was “Growth,” which we thought was inspiring!
Interviewing Julian was such an amazing experience, and we feel so lucky to have had the chance to learn from him. He gave us advice we’ll remember forever, and he reminded us to be bold, stay grateful, and always KEEP GOING.
